the himalayas may change you

on change

I’ve recently returned from a trip to Nepal, where a group of us trekked for ~21 days through the Khumbu region of the Himalayas. While there, we came across the sign above that read “The Himalayas May Change You. Please Do Not Change Them.” And while I feel that every trip, every venture outside my comfort zone changes me, I truly do believe that this trip has affected and altered me more than any other. I was humbled and awed by the Himalayas, which is what one would expect from the tallest mountains in the world. But the people - the Sherpas in particular - were most  enlightening. I aspire to be more like them and find that that is what I think about most now that I’m home. I liked who they were, what they stood for, how they moved through life. I liked who I was when I was around them.
